ENHANCING STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILLS THROUGH VIDEO-BASED INSTRUCTION: A CLASSROOM ACTION RESEARCH AT SMP MUHAMMADIYAH IMOGIRI

This study aimed to explain the implementation of videos to increase students' writing skills. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as its research methodology. Classroom action research refers to study carried out by teachers or other individuals in order to address issues that students encounter during the process of learning. This study was conducted at the tenth grades students of SMP Muhammadiyah Imogiri in the academic year of 2022/2023. This study's subjects were 32 students from class VIII A, 20 of whom were male and 12 were female. The results of the study show that 28 students (85%) out of 33 were classified as good in the first cycle, 2 students (6%) qualified as excellent, and then 3 students (9%), qualified as average, according to the observation guidelines and field notes collected by the collaborator. Every student's performance in the second cycle was also improved and raised. For the most aspect, they demonstrated good progress. In the second cycle, out of 33 students, 30 (91%) were classified as good, and 2 (9%) met the requirements for the category of excellent based on the collaborator's field notes and observation checklist. The above discussion indicates a significant enhancement in students' writing skills and the classroom atmosphere. The study's findings demonstrated that employing videos for writing instruction enhances students' capacity to generate ideas, organize them, select appropriate vocabulary, compose grammatically correct paragraphs, and utilize effective sentence structure.
