THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROJECT-BASED LEARNING ON STUDENTS' WRITING ACHIEVEMENT IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Abstract
This research is motivated by the low interest of students in learning English writing, the lack of vocabulary mastery, and the use of textbooks in learning. Therefore, this research aims to determine the effectiveness of the project-based learning model on students’ writing achievement in descriptive texts in tenth grade at Al Musyawirin Vocational School, Cirebon Regency. The author used quasi-experimental research, classified as quantitative research. The researcher chose 2 classes as samples, an experimental class and a control class which consists of 32 students. The sample in this study was class X TBSM 3 as the experimental class and X TBSM 2 as the control class. In the experimental class, the author provides treatment by applying a project-based learning model by making a video project to write a descriptive text. Meanwhile, in the control class, the author used free writing. Additionally, the author collected this research data by providing a pre-test, treatment by providing project-based learning and providing a post-test at the end of the research. The data in this research was calculated and analyzed using SPSS version 29 software with a significance of 0.05, Ha 0.001 < 0.05. Then the result of the calculated effect size shows that d = 1,003. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a strong effect and significant influence of PJBL on students’ writing achievement of class X at Al Musyawirin Vocational School for the 2023/2024 academic year. Especially in the content writing part.
